  1. Get Started

  3. Scanning occurs in three stages:
  4.            Preview scan
  5.            Adjustments, if necessary
  6.            Final scan

  9. 1  When HP PictureScan starts, a preview scan occurs and the picture appears on the screen.  Do not move the original paper on the scanner glass.
  10. 2  A moving selection border appears around the part of the page or picture that HP PictureScan will scan during the final scan.  If desired, modify the selection border by using the Selection, Marquee, and Lasso tools that appear on the screen.  Make other adjustments, such as specifying the size, if you wish.  Use the Options button to access the other adjustments.
  11. 3  Click Accept.  The final scan occurs.  The scanned picture is passed back to the software program where you started the scan.  Some programs, such as the HP PicturePlace software, prompt you to save the picture in a file.

  14. During the preview scan, the HP PictureScan software finds a picture.  It draws a selection border on the screen around each picture and identifies the type of picture . If you need to draw a selection border or change an existing one, see How to Select Part of a Page or Picture.

The HP PictureScan software automatically draws selection borders around up to five pictures.  However, if more than one border is drawn, only the area inside the moving border will be scanned during the final scan.  If more than five pictures are found, no selection borders are drawn automatically but you can draw one yourself.  If no selection border appears when you click Accept, the entire scanner glass is scanned.

  18. A picture may look better when printed than when displayed on a screen because a higher resolution is typically used for printing.  Print the picture, from HP PicturePlace or from your word processing or presentations software, to determine if its appearance is acceptable for your needs.
